Dr So has had over 20 years experience in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease. He obtained his medical qualification from the University of Hong Kong in 1987. He was appointed to his current position in 1994. He is now a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh, United Kingdom), Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Physicians, Specialist in Infectious Disease registered with the Hong Kong Medical Council.

Currently, he is Chairman of the Subcommittee in Infectious Disease, Hong Kong College of Physicians, Honorary Assistant Professor for Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Vice President of the Hong Kong Society for Infectious Diseases, Member of the Scientific Committee on Vaccine Preventable Diseases, Centre for Health Protection, Hong Kong.

Dr So has participated in numerous clinical trials, published with his colleagues over 30 peer reviewed scientific papers in both local and international journals, presented at numerous local, national and international medical conferences. He has been the principal investigator in Hong Kong for the Asian Network for Surveillance of Resistant Pathogens since 2000. The focus of his research has been in invasive pneumococcal infection, community-acquired and nosocomial pneumonia, methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus infection, antimicrobial resistance, immunomodulatory and antiviral therapy as well as viral kinetics in chronic hepatitis B infection.
